Sport stars join with schools to launch National Health & PE Day
4th Sep 12
The inaugural National Health and Physical Education Day will be launched tomorrow at Northbridge Public School in Sydney, one of more than 600 schools participating in the adidas Run Around the World event to celebrate the importance of health and physical education in the curriculum.
ACHPER National Executive Director Mr Jeffrey Emmel will join Sydney Swans star Lewis Jetta to kick start the marquee event on National Health & Physical Education Day.
The adidas Run Around The World event involves students completing at least 1 kilometre each to create an Australian record of the most students running/walking on the same day. There are over 170,000 students Australia-wide registered to participate – equivalent to more than four laps around the world.
ACHPER National Executive Director Mr Jeffrey Emmel said that this is a day of great celebration for schools that have put so much time and energy into improving their health and physical education curriculum.
“Health and physical education will play an increasingly important role in the Australian Curriculum and schools around the country will be showcasing their good work by participating in the adidas Run Around The World and in a variety of other activities to be held on the day and during the week.”
