Awards
At the 2011 State Conference, a number of outstanding schools and educators were recognised in front of their peers for their significant contribution to the area of HPE by being awarded with one of three ACHPER TAS Awards.
The awards were:
This award is for educators only and must be in the field of Health and Physical Education. The nominated person must fulfill the majority of the following criteria. He or she:
• is an advocate for quality Physical Activity in schools
• contributes to the development of the Physical Activity program in the school or early childhood centre
• is a good role model
• Continually evaluates his/her teaching effectiveness
• Continually evaluates the progress of his/her students and gives them effective feedback
• shows a willingness to involve himself or herself in additional activities for the benefit of children in schools & early
2. Best Practice in HPE Award – Primary
Recognises the significant contribution made by a Tasmanian Primary School (across education sectors) in the promotion of active and healthy living to the whole school community through the school Health and Physical Education program.

Teacher Recognition Award
Gary Sykes
Gary is the HPE Teacher at Flinders Island District High School and was nominated by his Principal for continually promoting sport through a participation and encouragement model, and his promotion of learn to swim.
Cameron Golding
Cameron is the K-6 HPE and Sports Coordinator at Dominic College where he has implemented many initiatives which have a health, exercise and nutrition focus. He was nominated for his successful implementation of annual and one-off events.
Russell Miller
Russell Miller's work for over 10 years in 2 high-needs schools has seen him tirelessly create equity for students who come from households with very limited economic means.
Best Practice in HPE Award - Secondary
Claremont College
Claremont College was the recipient of this award for their provision of a huge variety of opportunities for active engagement of all Year 11 and 12 students, not just those enrolled specifically in a TQA recognised HPE program.
Best Practice in HPE Award - Primary
There was no recipient of this award in 2011.
